A staircase which has a handrail running directly between the centre of the bottom newel post and the top newel post.
A landing has a handrail running horizontally between two newel posts, or a newel post and wall. There may be a 90-degree return in the handrail.
A staircase section which has the handrail running from the bottom newel post up the ceiling. The stringer runs directly from the newel post to the ceiling.
A staircase section which has the handrail running from the bottom newel post up the ceiling. There is also a vertical section between the top of the stringer and the ceiling.
