Looking for newel posts to complete your staircase? This range includes square oak newel posts in untreated, Ready2Paint, or factory-painted finishes (white, black, grey), available in standard sizes and custom options to suit unique layouts. You’ll also find spigot, straight cut, and half post variants, plus matching newel post base connectors, all designed for quick and straightforward installation.
All our newel posts are made in the UK and designed with simplicity in mind. You can choose from standard 90mm options or input your exact dimensions for a custom fit. Select untreated oak for natural warmth, Ready2Paint for a custom colour, or factory-painted white, black, or grey for a ready-to-install finish. Each post is compatible with our wider stair parts range and works with both spindle and glass balustrades. If you’re installing as part of a DIY refurb, we’ll guide you through the process with video tutorials and optional support from our team.

A newel post is the main upright post that supports the handrail at key points like landings and turns. A baluster (or spindle) is one of the smaller vertical pieces that run between the handrail and baserail to fill the space and add support.
Newel posts are usually placed at the bottom and top of the stairs, and at any turns or landings. They anchor the balustrade system and help secure the handrail.
At StairFurb, we offer square newel posts in three variants: spigot posts (with a dowel for easy fixing into existing bases), straight cut posts (for traditional installation methods), and half posts (designed to sit flush against walls on landings). All are available in oak, Ready2Paint, or painted finishes (white, black, grey) and work with glass or spindle balustrades. Decorative newels aren’t part of our current range.
Newel posts can be fixed using a pre-fitted ‘spigot’ or using a mortise and tenon joint. We recommend our Newel Post Fixing Kit, which includes everything you need for a strong, stable installation, perfect for DIY.
